Musician Spotlight: Terri Jo Jenkins

Oct 2, 2018

One of three daughters of an accomplished pianist and a fine singer, Terri Jo started her professional musical life at about age 10 singing three-part harmony with her sisters at a Nebraska county fair. That first show included “Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey.”  There was no direct leap to jazz.  Rather, she has lived a life of all kinds of music that finally brought her to Denver and her much-deserved respect as a jazz singer.

Local Musician Spotlight: Matt Smiley

Jul 4, 2018

Next in our series, “Spotlight on a Local Musician,” is an introduction to bassist Matt Smiley. As I’ve said in past Spotlights, here in metro Denver and Colorado we have an exceptionally educated, talented, creative group of jazz musicians.   I’ve lived in Boston and in Philadelphia, both of which have fine musicians. I continue to be floored as I discover the depth in the field of great jazz musicianship here in Cowtown. Matt Smiley ranks right up there with our best.
