Moderno returns for their second residency at Nocturne featuring the performance of contemporary Latin Jazz. The group’s first residence, three years ago, laid a foundation of music from many Afro-Caribbean traditions and the ways that they have blended and cross-inspired with jazz. Moderno’s repertoire of Latin Jazz classics still provides a foundation for each show, but now the group is taking a step forward and bringing new music to the tradition. This residence will feature new compositions and arrangements by the band’s members — each one offering new colors and new challenges for Moderno’s outstanding soloists. In addition to original material, the band will feature music from contemporary masters, such as Miguel Zenon, Paquito D’Rivera, and John Benitez. As Moderno combines all these elements in its shows, from classics to brand-new material, the audience becomes a participant in the variety, energy, and beauty that is Afro-Caribbean Jazz.

The Quintet: Jeremy Wendelin – woodwinds, Derech Banach – trumpet, Pete Ellingson – piano, Jon Cullison – bass, and Manuel Lopez – drums
