Women's History Month

Posi-Tone Records

Our selection for March reflects the annual celebration of Women’s History Month.  The all-female sextet, Lioness makes their auspicious debut with their CD, Pride and Joy for the Posi-Tone Records label. The members of this ensemble are young females who have already established themselves as talented players on demand for live performances and recordings sessions. All the ladies in the band contributed original compositions and the cover tunes were also written by women.

March is Women’s History month and Colorado has a long history of jazz and especially women in jazz.

Each day in March KUVO will look at a different Colorado woman who has made an impact in the world of jazz. We will look at both local and national artists and see what inspires them and inspires us about them.

From Dianne Reeves, to Katie Glassman, to Anisha Rush and more, we will have the ladies of Colorado Jazz. NEA Jazz Masters, Grammy Winners, Soul Stirers, Award Winners, and more.

The Women of The Yesteryears of Jazz had dynamic voices with far reaching range. They could captivate an audience not just with their amazing voices, but also with their sophisticated style of dress. Whether they were wearing ball gowns, fur coats, cocktail dresses, flats, heals, pumps, off the shoulder dresses, reserved or plunging necklines, these women brought class and sass to whatever article of clothing that they were wearing. They knew how to command attention, not just with their amazing voices, but with their ability to style and accessorize.
