The Shop: Facts on the Vax
Health officials say vaccines are critical to turning the tide against COVID-19. But younger residents are most likely to distrust vaccine programs. Coming up on a special simulcast edition of the feature “THE SHOP.” KUVO JAZZ and THE DROP will produce a live, one-hour conversation program on vaccines, who needs them, who wants them, and who doesn’t, featuring health care experts and community voices.
THE SHOP: “Facts on the Vax” airs Tuesday, April 27, at 7 pm on KUVO JAZZ (89.3 FM) and THE DROP (104.7 FM).
“THE SHOP” is hosted by DJ Bella Scratch and DJ Dif’Rent from THE DROP, and Steve Chavis from KUVO JAZZ.
So far, around 1.4 million people statewide have received their full vaccine doses against COVID-19. That’s about a quarter of Colorado’s nearly 6 million residents. While vaccines are an important tool in the fight for community wellness, there are significant challenges ahead: fluctuating infection rates, variants of the virus, and reluctance to get the vaccine. A new survey has found that younger individuals are significantly less likely to get the vaccine compared with older generations.
Marketing firm Fluent’s COVID-19 Vaccine Sentiment Survey finds Millennial and Gen X generations are the most likely to distrust vaccines overall. Gen Zers are the most likely to mistrust the developmental and approval process, according to the survey. Of the 36% of this group who do plan to get the vaccine, 33% said they will wait until there is a better understanding of the long-term side effects.
Other questions to be explored on “The Shop: Facts on the Vax” include the racial disparity of healthcare, including vaccination rates, how to access vaccinations regardless of income, and how vaccination rates affect “herd immunity.”
Guest experts are visiting The Shop to drop some real science and clinical experience into the discussion: John Douglas, Jr., MD, (Executive Director, Tri-County Health Department), Alexander Enurah, MD (Critical Care and Pulmonary Consultant Group, Greenwood Village), and Lisa Cooper, MD (Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity, Baltimore, Md.).
Join KUVO JAZZ and THE DROP for an hour-long community discussion on vaccinations, “The Shop: Facts on the Vax,” Tuesday, April 27, at 7 pm.
