Flobots

A KUVO JAZZ and THE DROP 104.7 Project

Born out of Denver’s vibrant music scene in the early 2000s, Flobots emerged as a band that never shied away from pairing sharp lyricism with bold social vision.

What began as a collaboration between MCs Jonny 5 (Jamie Laurie) and Brer Rabbit (Stephen Brackett) quickly grew into a full ensemble, fusing hip-hop’s storytelling with live instrumentation; strings, drums, and guitars that carried as much weight as the rhymes themselves. Their breakout single “Handlebars” in 2008 catapulted them into the national spotlight, but Flobots have always been about more than chart success.

At their core, the group has used music as a vehicle for dialogue, action, and change. With albums like Fight with Tools and Survival Story, they’ve channeled the urgency of social movements, inviting listeners to question, to act, and to imagine a better world. Over the years, Flobots have become a voice for their city and beyond, collaborating with educators, activists, and community leaders to weave art into the fabric of civic life.

Story-driven, purposeful, and unapologetically unique, Flobots continue to prove that music is more than entertainment, it’s a call to arms, a tool for resistance, and a reminder of the power we all hold when we raise our voices together.
