Trombonist and vocalist Melba Liston served as pianist Randy Weston’s arranger and collaborator for decades, their joint work spanning 1958-1998. Together, they created legendary recordings such as Little Niles and Uhuru Afrika.

We are celebrating the centenaries (what would be their 100th birthdays) of both of these musicians this year. Their great artistry lives on and on!

The music of Weston & Liston will be presented by the Max Moore-Donna Scott Quartet, joined by Gabe Rupe and Harold Summey.

Award-winning jazz vocalist Donna Scott will be coming here from Ohio for this special production. On singing and playing trombone, she says: “Singing really contributed to [getting] a fuller sound on the bass trombone.” Scott enjoys a wide array of genres and brings a strong force of expression to the stage.

If you aren’t familiar with Max Moore yet, consider this your alarm bell to come to this show! We are so lucky to have Moore as a local artist. Moore has been featured in Downbeat magazine and was recognized by Wynton Marsalis to receive a soloist award at the Essentially Ellington competition in New York City.
