A poster for Dave Hanson Quintet celebrates Thad Jones event

We are excited to host this special show from pianist, composer, and educator Dave Hanson and his quintet as they explore the work of one of the most prolific composers in the jazz idiom: Thad Jones. Known for his work as half of the creative force behind the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra as well as his inventive approach to improvisation, Jones's contribution to American music continues to influence players and composers to this day. Dave will be joined on stage by Jonathan Powell, Ricky Sweum, and Mark Simon.

Dave Hanson is an accomplished arranger, composer, and pianist who has written for a diverse range of artists and ensembles, including the Boston Pops, Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, Denver Brass, Boulder Brass, USAF Falconaires, and Paul Winter. He is co-leader and arranger for the critically acclaimed H2 Big Band (based in Denver, Colorado). Hanson recently retired from his position at the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver and teaches now at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
