Crisosto Apache, Colorado Poet Laureate

We recently had the honor of having Colorado’s newly appointed Poet Laureate, Crisosto Apache, visit us at the Buell Public Media Center.

Apache makes history as the state's 11th Poet Laureate and the first indigenous person to hold the title. Apache is an acclaimed poet of the Mescalero Apache, Chiricahua Apache, and Diné (Navajo) heritage.

In this video, Apache reflects on “the quiet miracle of poetry” and its transformative power to build a more compassionate society.

Crisosto Apache is an Associate Professor at Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design and serves as an editor-at-large for The Offing Magazine. Identifying as Two-spirit, Apache believes words have the power to change the landscapes of both hearts and minds.
