CU-Boulder Thompson Latin Jazz Ensemble streams on KUVO YouTube and Twitch channels | February 13 at 11 a.m.

Next up on KUVO's YouTube and Twitch channels is the CU Boulder Thompson Latin Jazz Ensemble, streaming on Thursday, February 13 at 11 a.m. This performance was part of the High School and Collegiate Series, captured in our Masterpiece Studio in November 2024.

The Thompson Latin Jazz Ensemble studies music from the Caribbean and South America and its integration and ties with jazz. Traditional and contemporary forms of Latin music are surveyed, including Afro-jazz, Afro-Cuban, danzón, salsa, calypso, and cha-cha-chá — as well as Brazilian forms, such as samba and baião.

The 18-piece CU Latin Jazz Ensemble is under the direction of Victor Mestas and Alejandro Castaño. Members of the Ensemble are:

Saxes: Raleigh Eversole, Camden Johnson, Cian Krueger, Jack Rueschhoff, Jonas Shofler.

Trombones: Kyle Nakaji, Jack Dunning, Abby Burford, Melvin Casillas-Muñoz.

Trumpets: Graeme Appel, Keegan Arnsmeier, Avi Bergman, Kaden Blake.

Bass: Daniel Kaminski.

Drums: Nathan Burak, Tomás Loya.

Vibes, piano, percussion: Daniel Trujillo.

Piano: Victor Mestas.
