Daniel Trujillo on Lunchtime! with Arturo Gómez
Friday, July 18, on Lunchtime! with Arturo Gómez, the young multi-instrumentalist phenom Daniel Trujillo will be Arturo's guest to talk about his concert presented by Gift of Jazz on the rooftop of the Buell Public Media Center on July 26. The show is a tribute to Cal Tjader on the occasion of his centennial birth month.
Daniel is a graduate of the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts (CCJA). By the time he was 16, he had formed his band Latin Vibes, which has performed at KUVO JAZZ and recently sold out his debut at Dazzle.
Trujillo is an 18-year-old multi-instrumentalist from Westminster, Colorado. Raised by musical parents and taught luthiery in his family’s premier full-service string shop, Mi Vida Strings, which specializes in the Double Bass.
His musical life started early on as a small yet surprisingly hard-hitting conga player. At age 7, Daniel joined the CCJA, where he spent over a decade growing both musically and personally under the wings of artists such as Greg Gisbert, Paul Romaine, Annie Booth, and Brad Goode. By 8, he was performing with salsa bands and at 12 began a self-taught vibraphone career, studying the works of Cal Tjader and Tito Puente.
Daniel is an active member of the Denver music community and continues his studies with Victor Mestas and the faculty of CU Boulder, recently performing with seven-time Grammy Award winner Maria Schneider.
