Influenced: Good Vibes with Sasha Berliner

Andy O’ is a musician (his band Coyote Poets has 6 albums out) and an award-winning poet who came on board at KUVO JAZZ on Labor Day 1989.Since then he has worked nearly every air shift and from 1997 to 2003 he was the Music Director at KUVO

I had an opportunity to have a conversation with vibraphonist Sasha Berliner, who will be in concert at Dazzle Denver on May 29, in support of her brand-new album "Fantôme."

We spoke about her career and her music, and her instrument, the vibraphone.

Sasha has some very insightful ideas about Jazz in the future, currently, and about her specific musical identity.

“I think there are some people who are in fear of the origins and traditions of jazz going obsolete, and I think that it’s not a zero-sum game. It’s not like because modern jazz exists, that stuff goes away.” Sasha Berliner

The program will focus on vibes and some of Sasha’s favorite vibraphonists: players like Stefon Harris, Dave Pike, Cal Tjader, and Gary Burton as well as the very first recording of jazz vibraphone.

We will feature segments of the interview this Tuesday, May 20 at 12:00 a.m. MT, following the Monday Jazz Odyssey with alldaywes.
