Jazz Oyssey with alldaywes: Yuuf = A Four Letter Word For Fun
Yuuf doesn't just make music, they make music that fits every moment and invites the listener into an introspective journey through soundscapes evoking the feeling of being surrounded by the natural world. Bringing together Anthony Boatright on bass, Hugo Cottu on guitar, Andrin Haag on handpan and percussion, and Oliver Overgaard on drums. Each hailing respectively from England, France, Switzerland, and Denmark, the four musicians blend their diverse cultural influences to create a unique sound shaped in their shared home of London, where they formed the group just a few years after university.
The instrumental four-piece played their first ever US show right here in Denver, performing at Lost Lake Lounge on Colfax on November 8th, the second show on their 2025 tour after kicking it off with the inaugural show in Toronto. In their performance, they are playing selections from their three EPs, In The Sun, Alma’s Cove, and their newest release, Mt. Sava, and even sprinkle in a few covers, including a fun and crowd interactive rendition of The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony.”
One thing I noticed is the contrast between the band’s recorded sessions and when they are performing in front of a live audience; The songs come alive, the energy shifts. The music and band members transform from meditative, chill, and atmospheric into fun, charismatic, and electrifying on stage. You can physically see how much these guys enjoy being together and creating in the moment.
Watch the interview I did with the band before coming into town on our KUVO Community YouTube page and hear Yuuf’s music on the Jazz Odyssey Monday-Thursday, 10 p.m. to Midnight on KUVO.
