KUVO Presents — Balthvs

“So, uh, what are you?” more

What’s the best way to wait out a pandemic?

Well, if you ask Balthazar Aguirre, band leader of Colombia-based Balthvs, it would be to start a band.

Formed in 2020, Balthvs wanted to make music to match the moment. Harnessing the magic of the internet, Aguirre (guitar, vocals) and bandmates Johanna Mercuriana (bass, vocals) and Santiago Lizcano (drums, vocals) dug through the virtual crates of YouTube, gathering influences from as far away as Turkey. Their sound highlights Colombia’s psychedelic side, weaving a sonic tapestry full of cumbia, surf rock, and funk.

Ahead of their Denver show on February 21 with Gitkin at Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom, Super Sonido’s La Molly and Jazz Odyssey’s Monday host alldaywes sat down with Aguirre to discuss the band.
