Live & Local - Néstor Torres Returns to Colorado
Out of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, Néstor Torres has delved into a wide variety of musical projects throughout his over 35-year career. From Mi Alma Latina: My Latin Soul, covering music of Santana to Willie Bobo and Nouveau Latino showcasing jazz versions of Fania hits to Jazz Flute Traditions honoring legendary flute pioneers, and most recently Dominican Suite in collaboration with the great Corey Allen, Néstor’s sound is an authentic fusion of Latin, classical, jazz, and pop. His flute work, crossover multi-media productions, and compositions have brought him around the world and will soon bring him back to Colorado. On December 19, Néstor Torres will take the stage at Dazzle, joined by some of our state’s finest:
Victor Mestas: Keyboards
Gonzalo Teppa: Bass
Alejandro Castaño: Drums
Leo Corona: Percussion
Carlos Lando caught up with Néstor about what he has in store for these two sets (the earlier set at 6:30 p.m. officially sold out) as well as what he’s been working on musically.
“We're working on a single right now, we laid down some basic tracks, and I'm just going to leave you with this. Do you remember Gil Scott Heron’s ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised?" We’re doing something inspired on that. We'll just leave it at that.”
