Vinyl Vault: Manhattan Transfer, "Mecca for Moderns"

This week, the Vinyl Vault will feature a 1981 album by the vocal group, The Manhattan Transfer, entitled “Mecca For Moderns.” The album was released on Atlantic Records and won multiple Grammy Awards, including one for the Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Duo or Group” for the song “Until I Met You (Corner Pocket).” “A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square” won another Grammy for Best Vocal Arrangement for Two or More Voices. That song was arranged by Gene Puerling. We’ll hear those tunes, plus a vocalese version of Charlie Parker’s “Confirmation,” just in time for his birthday on August 29, which is also KUVO’s 40th birthday! - lasting lineup of vocalists over the band’s history. Leader Tim Hauser was on the album along with Janis Siegel, Cheryl Bentyne, and Alan Paul.

Join Geoff Anderson this Tuesday, August 5, at 8:30 p.m. for some vocal jazz on the next Vinyl Vault on KUVO JAZZ.
