Vincent Herring’s supergroup Something Else! brings Soul Jazz to Denver
“So often, I’m not enjoying what I’m hearing.” Surprising words from a jazz saxophonist of the caliber of Vincent Herring. But he found common ground with the other members of the soul-jazz supergroup Something Else! Considering the line-up (Herring – alto sax, Jeremy Pelt – trumpet, Wayne Escoffery – tenor sax, Paul Bollenback – guitar, Dave Kikoski – piano, Essiet Essiet – bass, Lewis Nash – drums), bandleaders all, they each pull away from busy schedules to have fun in the funky, bluesy soul-jazz vein. “We have this playground for these musicians. We have a great time.”
In conversation with The Morning Set co-host Steve Chavis, Herring describes the big idea and putting the band together to give audiences a foot-stomping, hand-clapping good time.
Something Else! appears at Dazzle on Thursday, May 14, and Friday, May 15.
