Mile High United Way, the first United Way in the world, was founded 138 years ago with the idea that we are stronger together. Today, the organization supports families throughout Metro Denver and Boulder and Broomfield counties by working to give all children a strong start, supporting education and academic success, and creating economic opportunity for all. Last year, Mile High United Way invested $37.6 million in our community and helped nearly 600,000 people. One of the organization's largest programs is the 211 Help Center. Anyone in Colorado can dial 211 to be connected to a range of resources, including shelter, food, child care, health care and job opportunities.
People can support the work of Mile High United Way by giving and volunteering. Last year, nearly 6,200 volunteers contributed over 24,600 hours of their time. The Mile High United Way Turkey Trot is one of the organization's biggest fundraisers each year. The Turkey Trot is a 4-mile run/walk at Denver’s Washington Park on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27. This year marks the 52nd anniversary of the event. It is one of the biggest Turkey Trots in the nation with 11,000 participants.
