As part of KUVO ’s week-long 30th birthday party at DazzleJazz, KUVO live broadcast the Ken Walker Sextet 9 PM show August 28.

Join KUVO host Carlos Lando - either at Dazzle or from the comfort of your own home – for a night of swinging jazz featuring many of Colorado’s top musicians. Ken Walker’s Sextet features Jeff Jenkins (piano), Paul Romaine (drums), Peter Sommer (saxophone), Al Hood (trumpet) and Dave Corbus (guitar).

The Ken Walker Sextet promises to swing hard and evoke some finger snapping and toe tapping!

Ken Walker started playing upright bass when he was a student at Arkansas Tech University, where he received his bachelor of music education degree. He moved to Denver in late 1985 and in 1987 began a tenure as the house bassist at Denver’s legendary jazz club El Chapultepec that ended in 1998.

Today, Walker is the Rocky Mountain region’s 1st-call jazz bassist.

On faculty at the Lamont School of Music, Walker teaches jazz bass to all jazz and commercial bass majors, coaching the Traditional, Hard Bop and Latin Combos in addition to his studio.

Walker has performed at the Telluride, Jazz Aspen Snowmass and other festivals throughout the Western States and played with a veritable Who’s Who of jazz artists including: Eddie Harris, Hal Galper, Tom Harrell, John Abercrombie, Randy Brecker, Nat Adderley, Jimmy Witherspoon, Carl Fontana, Slide Hampton, Clark Terry, Joe Pass, Herb Ellis, Freddie Hubbard, Lew Soloff, Clifford Jordan, James Moody, Javon Jackson, Ray Bryant, Roy Hargrove, and many more.

In addition to live jazz events throughout the week, Dazzle will host KUVO’s 30th Birthday Open House on August 29 from 2 to 5 PM. Live music in the Dizzy Room will be provided by KUVO 30 Under 30 artist Walter Gorra (piano) as well as Gonzalo Teppa (bass)and Manuel Lopez (drums).
