The fundraiser edition of the Vinyl Vault will feature a 1976 album from Horace Silver entitled “Silver ‘n Wood.” Released on Blue Note Records, this was one of five “Silver ‘n…” releases. On “Silver ‘n Wood” he added a half dozen woodwind players to his regular quintet. And it was a pretty good regular quintet, featuring Tom Harrell on trumpet, Bob Berg on saxes, Ron Carter on bass and Al Foster on drums. The music consists of two extended suites composed by Silver, “The Tranquilizer Suite” and “The Process of Creation Suite.” While many 1976 jazz releases focused on fusion, synthesizers and loud guitars, this release was pure acoustic and pure Silver. Check out the Vinyl Vault with Geoff Anderson, Tuesday, May 7 at 8:30 on KUVO Jazz.
