La Selva Negra (The Modern Jungle), from co-directors Saul Kak (Zoque) and Charles Fairbanks, presents a portrait of a small Zoque village in Mexico beset by outside forces. The film documents the influences of capitalism, the allure of a pyramid-scheme-marketed nutritional supplement hyped as a medical miracle, and the impact of filmmaking on Kak’s community. In Zoque and Spanish with English subtitles. (Charles Fairbanks, 2018, 71 min.).

Film contains some adult language.

Admission is free, but a $5.00 donation is appreciated.
