Vinyl Vault—The Dave McKenna Quartet
This Tuesday, Vinyl Vault features piano powerhouse Dave McKenna with his quartet featuring Gray Sargent. It’s a 1989 Concord release and features delightful, swinging renditions of a number of jazz standards such as “Look for the Silver Lining,” “Smile,” “For You, For Me, For Evermore” and others.
Guitarist Sargent was new to the scene at the time, but makes a big impact here with some great playing and clever interplay with McKenna. Monty Budwig on bass and Jimmie Smith on drums round out the quartet.
