Happy Birthday to Stan Getz and Sonny Stitt!
Today we celebrate the birthday anniversary of two virtuosic saxophonists who were different in many ways, but both of whom shared a passion for the playing of Lester Young:Sonny Stitt born 1924 in Boston MA and Stan Getz born 1927 in Philadelphia PA.
They recorded together on a classic Dizzy Gillespie session in 1956, released as For Musicians Only. We’ll listen to highlights from that record as we remember the decades of beautiful music they made.
