The Latin Soul Party is presenting a Selena Music Special to pay tribute to her life and her music 26 years after her death. We want to introduce Selena to a new generation.

Born in Freeport, TX on April 16, 1971, and died March 31, 1995. She would have been 50 years old this year!

Selena was known as the Queen of Tejano music and the Queen of Cumbias because of all the rhythmic musica para bailar she played. Her first big hit was the song “Baila Esta Cumbia” in 1991 and in 1994 she was the first Tejano artist to win a Grammy in the Best Mexican-American album. Selena’s English language album, “Dreaming of You,” was released by EMI records four months after her death and was a huge success. Selena was awarded the lifetime achievement Grammy this year.

The Selena Music Special will feature many of her hits, like “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” “Como La Flor,” and “No Me Queda Mas.” Interviews and comments from friends and family will also be presented.

We’ll even play music from her brother’s band, The Kumbia Kings, and others, as she was loved by many of her fellow musicians.

We hope you’ll tune in for this extra special “Selena Music Special” on Friday, March 26, from 8 to 10 pm. Exclusively on KUVO!
