Tune in for a live broadcast featuring the LowDown Brass Band from KUVO’s Bonfils-Stanton Performance Studio on Friday, February 25, from 3:15 to 3:45 pm.

This talented all-horn band leans heavily on dancehall and street beat rhythm, with the energy of conscious hip hop, jazz, reggae, and soul. A uniquely strong representation of Chicago Music culture.

LowDown Brass Band is a constantly-evolving collective of Chicago horn musicians, all the artists come from different musical backgrounds. Some got their start in church, some in academic settings, in family bands, and through “the school of hard knocks.

The band described their sound as “free brass” — a play on the term “free jazz,” a ‘50s and ‘60s approach to jazz improvisation which broke down conventional stylistic elements. LowDown Brass Band strives to build something new, straying from traditional expectations of the brass band genre.

LowDown Brass Band personnel:
Anthon Evora – MC Billa Camp
Shane Jonas – Lead Vocals/Trumpet
Sam Jonas – Trumpet
Andrew Zelm – Trombone
Royce Harrington – Trombone
Matt Davis – Sousaphone
John Barbush – Drum Kit

The LowDown Brass Band live broadcast is made possible by the Studio Club members of KUVO JAZZ! Due to continued covid restrictions live audiences are not permitted at this time.
