The New Music Monday highlights include the following recording and more. Tune in to Lunchtime with Arturo Gomez on Mondays at noon.

Andrea Brachfeld & Insight: “Evolution”
For decades Andrea has been an in-demand flutist in the New York Latin music scene with occasional sojourns into mainstream jazz. After the Pandemic’s most dangerous period subsided Brachfeld decided to relocate to Virginia and expand her music horizons by adding the Colombian clay flute, African wood flute, and kalimba to her repertory of the alto and “C” flute. As in most of her previous 9 recordings as a leader, Bill O’Connel is her pianist with Harvie S on bass with Jason Tiemann on drums and percussion. What a pleasure it is to hear the evolution of Andrea Brachfeld!

Chicago Soul Collective Meets Dee Alexander: “On the Way To Be Free”
The two prior albums of the Chicago Soul Jazz Collective were extremely well received by jazz radio across the USA, not content to sit on their laurels the ensemble decided to add “le grand dame” of Chicago vocalists, Dee Alexander to be the singer for their brand new outing. Dee is part of the nationally syndicated overnight Jazz Radio Network heard on KUVO Jazz. Chicago is where Louis Armstrong made his first recordings, The Windy City is also recognized as the birthplace of gospel and was the leader of the sweet soul music sounds of the 1960s. All of those elements are present in this stimulating session.

John Lee: “The Artist”
For over ten years John Lee was the bass player for Dizzy Gillespie, both for touring and recording sessions, in addition, John played with Max Roach and Aretha Franklin among many other important artists. Mister Lee is also the owner of a record label; Jazz Legacy Productions with over 20 productions by a fine cast of musicians. For this new recording, John teams up with Miles Black on piano, Carl Allen on drums, and Cory Weeds-tenor sax on three tracks.

Every Monday starting at Noon, I debut the latest arrivals to the KUVO Jazz library, many of the recordings are premiered ahead of their official release date. In addition to comments about the music, I’ll provide a few tidbits about the artist, particularly if it’s a new or up-and-coming artist.
