These feel like especially troubling times. Bad news seems to rain down without a break, and no rainbows in sight. What’s a person to do? I can’t speak for anyone else, but in my life when times are hard and the light is dim, and I need some comfort from the world’s madness, I’ve often turned to soul music.

I love music in all its forms but I have a deep affinity for Soul Music. It is a big part of the soundtrack of my youth. There are other labels people give it, mostly for marketing purposes, but Soul says it all. Those vintage sounds from Detroit, Chicago, Memphis, New Orleans, and elsewhere touch deep in their simplicity. Heartbreak and sadness, happiness and joy, all are welcome. Listening to soul returns the bounce in one’s step. KUVO knows all of this and serves up this love affair weekly with The Latin Soul Party, the R&B Jukebox, and All Blues programs. We’re all better for it.

This Sunday is my turn to share my love for the music and for those shows. You will also get to hear artists and tracks that you probably won’t hear on any of those great programs. Tune in Sunday, July 10 at 7 pm when The Jazz River’s Got Soul. Only on KUVO JAZZ.
