The essence of jazz is the blues, so you might say it all starts with LIVE blues.

Here’s a rundown on the many blues jam sessions around metro Denver:
On Mondays, The Bluez Catz Jam at the Speakeasy in Longmont, and. On alternating Mondays, there’s a blues jam at Antero Hall in Lakewood.

On Tuesdays, David Booker hosts his open Blues Jam at Elevate Bar & Grill in Westminster.

On Wednesday night it’s the Big Blues Jam at the Rusty Bucket in Lakewood and alternating Wednesdays at Rule 105 in Golden.

On Thursdays in Wheat Ridge Robert Fiorino hosts the blues jam at Long Shots, and in Loveland at Boot Grille, The Buzz Brothers are your hosts.

On Sundays at 6:00 p.m., Doc Brown hosts the Blues Jam at Plaza 38 in Denver.

There’s a comprehensive list of blues jam sessions and blues shows at the website of the Colorado Blues Society, www.COBlues.org.

The 45th annual Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday, December 4, 2022 in Washington celebrated Gladys Knight, Amy Grant, George Clooney, composer/conductor Tania León and the Irish rock band U2.

Dianne Reeves joined BeBe and CeCe Winans, Sheryl Crow, Brandi Carlile, and others for part of the musical celebrations of Gladys Knight and Amy Grant.

Conductor and composer Tania León was one of some 300,000 refugees who left Cuba on the so-called “Freedom Flights” in 1967.  In 2021, León won the Pulitzer Prize in Music for her work on Stride, commissioned by the New York Philharmonic.

Earlier the honorees received medals and a State Department dinner with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who celebrated their contributions to American culture.

The Kennedy Center Honors airs on CBS on December 28.
