Vinyl Vault: Brian Auger and the Trinity with Julie Driscoll, “Streetnoise”

The Vinyl Vault features a double album from 1969 entitled "Streetnoise” by Brian Auger and the Trinity and Julie Driscoll. This album was recorded the year before Auger formed the Oblivion Express. Many of the sonic elements of that band can be heard on “Streetnoise.” But it's Driscoll’s emotive vocals that set this album apart from Auger’s later work with the Oblivion Express.

The album features a combination of cover tunes and original compositions. Some of the covers include Richie Havens’s “Indian Rope Man” as well as tunes covered by Nina Simone, such as “When I Was A Young Girl.” A highlight of the album is the cover of Miles Davis’s “All Blues.” Another aural aspect of “Streetnoise” that sets it apart from later works by Auger is Driscoll’s work on acoustic guitar. The Oblivion Express featured electric guitar, but the acoustic guitar work on “Streetnoise” is quite different.

Join Geoff Anderson for the next Vinyl Vault on Tuesday, June 17 at 8:30 p.m. on KUVO JAZZ.
