Congratulations are in order to the winners of the 22nd annual Jazz Journalists Association Jazz Awards.   The Jazz Journalists Association (a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the best use of media of all kinds –new and old, online and off– to tell the story of jazz and develop new jazz audiences) announced the winners of their jazz awards this week, winners included Kurt Elling, Jazzmeia Horn, and NEA Jazz Master Benny Golson.

Benny Golson won the Lifetime Achievement in Jazz Award. Now in his late 80’s many consider Golson, according to his website bennygolson.com, “one of the last surviving links to the Golden Age of Modern Jazz ushered in by the likes of Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Kenny Clarke, and others in the early 1940’s”

Other winners included: Matt Wilson, Maria Schneider, Thelonious Monk, Cecile McLorin Salvant and more.

The winners were selected and nominated by the international membership of the Jazz Journalists Association (JJA). The awards have been handed out annually since 1997.

A full list of winners can be found at the Jazz Journalist Association’s Website.
