Art Scene: Mapping | Sep 9

They will discuss a compelling installation, “Mapping” of used books at the Walker Fine Art Gallery, 11th & Cherokee, opening September 9, 5-9 p.m.  Find out what makes this artist destroy and then create beauty with everyday objects.

“What if…  all the books that you read were mapped into your brain in this over lapping sort of swirling organic fashion?” asks Jessica Drenk,  an American artist raised in Montana.  She developed an appreciation for the natural world that remains an important inspiration to her artwork today.  Tactile and textural, her sculptures highlight the chaos and beauty that can be found in simple materials. Drenk’s work is also influenced by systems of information and the impulse to develop an encyclopedic understanding of the world. more
