Sam Mayfield Blues Revue at City Park Jazz | August 9

KUVO All Blues host Sammy Mayfield will be bringing the blues to City Park Jazz August 9!

The Sam Mayfield Blues Revue will feature Mayfield on guitar, Ed “Mr.Wonderful” Wingfield (vocals), Bill Shannon (bass), Karen Cherish (keyboards), Michael Johnson (drums), Jon Braddy (trombone), Steve Illich (trumpet), Toby Hopper (saxophone), and Jimmy Betts (M.C).

Launching his career as a blues artist in the early ’60s, Mayfield has backed numerous blues greats such as Esther Phillips, John Lee Hooker, Big Mama Thornton, and Jimmy Witherspoon.

 

Mayfield has opened shows for B.B. King and Denise LaSalle, and was the musical director for the legendary Solomon Burke for more than 20 years.

 

Mayfield and the Soul Alive Orchestra toured extensively throughout Italy, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Canada and were in Berlin during the fall of the Berlin Wall.

 

The band is currently recording a new CD. Mayfield’s last recording, Blues by the Bushel, received stellar reviews.
