Vervy and fearless vocalist Lisa Engelken is bringing her untamed brilliance to Dazzle Jazz June 20.

Classically and theatrically trained, this Kansas-born straight shooter wields an acrobatic three-octave range and alternately locomotes and floats through tunes. Engelken electrifies audiences with an intensity that has garnered her comparisons to Evel Kneivel, Janis Joplin and even a roaring Harley Davidson.

Tune in to KUVO Friday, June 19 at 2:30 PM to hear Take Note host Susan Gatschet interview  Engelken live!

Now living in San Francisco, Engelken returns to Dazzle Jazz to celebrate her most recent release Little Warrior, an arresting collection of originals and re-imaginings of The Cars, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, Abbey Lincoln, Chick Corea, and Wayne Shorter.

The poly-glot Engelken also includes “Viva la felicità,” a joyous samba adapted from the 70’s Italian children’s cartoon “Signor Rossi.” Engelken produced and arranged all tracks on Little Warrior, named to the Top 10 Jazz Albums of 2013 and to the “Best of 2013” by the Jazz Journalists Association.

Engelken is excited to re-join forces with a powerhouse trio that combines Denver’s finest – pianist Eric Gunnison and bassist Ron Bland, with San Francisco (by way of the U.K.) drummer Matthew Swindells. Further delight awaits the audience as special guest vocalists Donna Wickham and Nellie Quinn will join the quartet in concert.
