Interview with Miriam Paisner

Boulder jazz fans have organized a jazz education event for June 2015 called the “Jump for Jazz Festival.”  Boulder’s “Jazz Gossip” Miriam Paisner sat down with “First Take with Lando and Chavis” to describe the community outreach.

“I have wanted to know for sure (about the making of jazz music) since about ten years ago when I went to the Boulder Jazz Jams at the Broker Inn and Brad Goode was leading,” said Paisner, who sends out weekly jazz listings to hundreds of people via an e-mail list.

The Jump for Jazz Festival on Sunday, June 28, 2015 features hour-long daytime workshops in which accomplished jazz musicians from a diverse range of styles engage in dialogue with attendees about how their specific musical genre is created and executed. The evening will conclude with a jazz concert at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at the Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder.

In the interview above, Paisner describes the many genres within jazz that will be discussed.

“Jump for Jazz” met their early goal with a Kickstarter campaign, but they’re hoping to go a bit further.  Here’s the link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/94876508/jump-for-jazz?ref=nav_search

The one-day jazz education event has also aligned with Our Music Heritage, headed by Denver jazz bassist Ron Bland to achieve its official non-profit status.  (OUR MUSICAL HERITAGE: Jump for Jazz, c/o Denver Musicians Association, 1165 Delaware St., Denver, CO  80204)

Music on this feature is by Colorado artists: Dexter Payne Quartet + 1, “No Wolf at the Door,” from the CD Pra Voce, Bob Montgomery/Al Hermann Quintet, “Collard Greens & Black Eyed Peas” and “Talkin’” from the CD On the Brink.
