KUVO Jazz radio is built around three big ideas: community, culture, and music. The response to the current COVID-19 pandemic has affected all three of those areas, and the KUVO Jazz program schedule has been adjusted to respond as well.

Most importantly, keeping the KUVO staff and volunteers safe, and that means reducing the number of hosts who share the microphone at the Five Points Media Center. , We have extended the length of some shifts and reduced the number of days our weekday hosts are on. SEE THE TEMP SCHEDULE HERE.

Steve Chavis hosts Monday through Thursday, starting at 6:00 a.m. Carlos Lando or George Peck is on to help you wake up on Fridays. Mid-days are covered by Arturo Gómez starting at 10:00 a.m. on Mondays, so he can continue to bring you “New Music Monday.” Susan Gatschet curates her mid-day mix on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays starting at 9:00 a.m. On Fridays Andy O’ spins the tunes starting at 10:00 a.m., including a preview of his Sunday evening jazz and poetry program, “The Nightside.” Janine Santana and Rodney Franks host the weekday late afternoons on KUVO Jazz, starting at 2:00 p.m.

Evenings and weekends at KUVO Jazz are programmed by volunteers. They are young and old. They are new to their careers, and they are retired. Some are new to Colorado, some are transplants, some are natives. And they come from a wide variety of ethnicities and cultural roots. But they are ALL dedicated to sharing the best music they can find with you, the listener. That’s why it was so hard for them to step away from the KUVO Studios during the Stay-at-Home order. Some evening and weekend hosts are sharing archived shows, and some are pressing their home studios into service for KUVO, and some are just waiting for the news that they can return to KUVO and play more music for you.

Thankfully, our friends at the Jazz Network produce fresh mixes of straight-ahead jazz daily, and so you’ll be hearing more of Dee Alexander, John Hill, Leslie Keros, and Dave Schwan on weekday evenings and on Saturdays, as well as overnights through the week.

KUVO Jazz is and will always be the “oasis” and we’ll get back to “normal” as soon as the public health situation allows. Until then, stay clean, healthy, and socially responsible. Even at a distance, we’ll get through this pandemic together.
