Putuparri and the Rainmakers, director Nicole Ma. This documentary spans ten transformative years in the life of Tom Putuparri Lawford, as he navigates the chasm between his western upbringing and his growing determination to fight for his family’s homeland. When Putuparri travels with his grandfather and other Wangkajunga elders to Kurtal, a sacred waterhole in the Great Sandy Desert, he learns that the dreamtime myths are not merely stories. Director Ma travels with Putuparri on his arduous journey as he shoulders the responsibility of pursuing the community’s longstanding claim to Aboriginal Title to Kurtal, a site of immense cultural spiritual significance. A powerful statement about the spiritual power of place. (Nicole Ma, 2015, 97 min.). Mature Language.
