These new music selections will premier on the KUVO air-waves on Monday, June 7 at noon on New Music Monday:

Matt Niess & The Capitol Bones: “The Beat Goes On”
The nation’s capital long standing big band is considered not only the finest of DC, but also one of the country’s best. for the ensemble’s 4th recording and first in several years, band leader Matt Neiss opted to showcase the oft-ignored trombone to the spotlight. The ensemble features 7 trombones and no other brass instruments or reeds. Their song list features the Sonny & Cher classic serving as the title track and a nice mixture of standards-traditional and contemporary plus a Latin ditty!

Bruce Harris: “Soundview”
Trumpeter Bruce Harris is a proud Bronxite, he has named his second recording as a leader after the neighborhood of the Bronx he was raised in. Soundview has long been the home of many fine musicians and artists and is one of the several cultural melting pots of the Boogie Down. The dynamite rhythm section is led by pianist Sullivan Fortner. Cellar Live, Bruce’s recording label has made a large donation in Harris’ behalf to the Bronx Charter School of the Arts to continue the legacy of great Bronx musicians.

Clifford Lamb: “Blues & Hues-New Orleans”
Chicago based pianist Clifford traveled to New Orleans during the pandemic to engage with some of NOLA’s best musicians to learn more about the roots of jazz’s birthplace and immerse himself with the lore of Mardi Gras and Congo Square. He then invited some of the finest home-grown talent to record with him, they include Big Chief Donald Harrison, Herlin Riley, Nicholas Payton and others in a very pleasing session filled with the sounds of the French Quarter and the entire Big Easy.

Every Monday from Noon until 1pm, I debut the latest arrivals to KUVO Jazz, often ahead of their regularly scheduled release date. In addition to the music, I’ll provide a few tidbits about the artist in particular if it’s a new or up-and-coming artist.
