We have new music for you! Tune in on Monday, June 20 at noon with host Arturo Gomez to listen to music from these recordings on New Music Monday.

NYO Jazz: “We’re Still Here”
This is the initial recording of the NYO Jazz which began as the National Youth Orchestra in 2018. Based out of Purchase College in Harrison, NY, the school boasts a stellar faculty that includes, Wycliffe Gordon, Melissa Aldana, Shamie Royston among many others including the band conductor and director, Sean Jones, an internationally acclaimed and award-winning educator. In addition to Jones, faculty members Wycliffe Gordon and Melissa Aldana join the band for this recording that features 4 songs commissioned by Carnegie Hall. A very impressive debut.

Christian Jacob: “New Jazz Standards, Volume 5; The Music of Carl Saunders”
The long-time recording and tourist pianist for the Tierney Sutton Band is also a favorite of other vocalists as he is an ideal accompanist for singers—no easy task. Christian Jacob grew up playing classical music in his native France and was a child prodigy who in his early teens left classical music to begin a career in jazz. Jacob met the amazing trumpeter and composer Carl Saunders in the early 1990s and forged a friendship that led Saunders to ask Christian to choose 12 of his songs and record them in a trio setting, an offer Jacob could not refuse. Darek Oles and Joe LaBarbera are the bassist and drummer that accompany Christian Jacob on the exquisite outing.

Jocelyn Gould: “Golden Hour”
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and now based out of Toronto, guitarist Jocelyn Gould turned heads with her outstanding playing on her debut recording. Jocelyn issues her new album “Golden Hour” and takes her playing 1 notch higher and adds the formidable bassist Rodney Whitaker and the fierce drummer Quincy Davis to her group. The playlist consists of mostly originals by Gould with 3 covers as well. This session will continue to add fans and followers of this young lady with immense talent.

Every Monday for the past 19 years starting at Noon, I debut the latest arrivals to the KUVO Jazz library, many of them are debuted ahead of their official release date. In addition to the music comments, I’ll provide a few tidbits about the artist in particular if it’s a new or up-and-coming artist.
