The Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra (CJRO) will present their favorite big band jazz arrangements for an evening of hard swinging masterworks January 23 at the Lone Tree Arts Center.

“Colorado’s best musicians will be passionately delivering the swinging blues, beautiful ballads and Latin jazz that speak most to them,” said CJRO Founder and Director, Art Bouton. “Needless to say, the audience is in for a real treat.”

The concert’s line-up will include compositions from the libraries of Count Basie, Maynard Ferguson, Buddy Rich and Thad Jones, including “Stompin’ at the Savoy,” “Blues in Hoss’ Flat,” “Don’t Get Sassy” and the Grammy nominated arrangement from CJRO’s own Steve Weist of “Besame Mucho.”

Other features include the Frank Foster composition “Shiny Stockings” and Don Rader’s “Greasy Sack Blues.”

Award-winning jazz vocalist Heidi Schmidt will accompany CJRO, who will conclude the evening with the challenging and seldom heard Bill Reddie arrangement of “West Side Story” written to close each concert of the Buddy Rich big band.

“Colorado’s resident big band will be digging deep into the word ‘repertory’ for this concert,” said Bouton. “The result is sure to be a crowd pleaser.”

CJRO has sold out tickets for its past three concerts, so be sure to get your tickets soon for “CJRO Favorites,” 8 pm, January 23 at the Lone Tree Arts Center.
