On June 22nd we combined National Bike to Work Day with the “Eats & Beats” segment by having cycling nutritionist Dr. Allen Lim from Skratch Labs on “First Take with Lando and Chavis.”

Lim considers it a short distance from the sugary sports drinks to the spectre of performance enhancing drugs in professional and amateur sports.  ”I think that the idea of doping in professional sports really mirrors what’s happening in our own society with respect with how we take care of ourselves or how we have developed this dependency on medication or on modern day medicine,” Lim said.

“Riding a bicycle has its own basic joy, whether you’re commuting to work… or doing it for fitness or racing.”

(Editors note: Taylor Phinney will be joining Brent Bookwalter in both the road race and time trial as part of the five discretionary picks for the U.S. Olympic Games road team later this summer (cyclingnews.com).

These days Lim is focusing on his Boulder-based hydration mix and supplements company, and not traveling to France for the Tour de France.  ”I’m going to stay here in America to help Taylor Phinney prepare for the Olympic games in Rio,” Lim said.
