Colorado’s three largest voting groups by party are Democrats (973,000+), Republicans with a couple thousand more (976,000+), and the largest group – the unaffiliated voters, whose active registrations number more than 1,044,207 (as of this writing).  Call us a “purple state,” or “in play,” or “battleground.”  However you describe Colorado’s voting trends, they are unpredictable. 

 

Don’t be fooled by all the hype and hoopla over the Big Race for President.  Local candidates and local issues may have more to do with how we live on a daily basis than the national political contests.   It all comes down to who registers and who actually casts a ballot.  That’s what political operatives call “the ground game.”

 

If you’re planning to exercise your right to vote, you will make it easy for yourself if you get registered to vote soon.  County clerks are preparing to mail out ballots by mid-October.
