They will be playing an evening of Americana and Western swing. Greg is on guitar and mandolin, Dusty Rider – pedal steel, banjo, Conner Hollingsworth – upright bass, Damon Smith – drums, and Jeremy Mohney on sax. These guys are serious musicians that are dedicated to the roots of Western swing. Bring your dancing shoes. It will be great fun.
After the war in the 50s, the touring big swing bands faded in popularity and the economics no longer supported the big bands, so the musicians formed smaller groups that focused on the rising regional popularity of country and blues. In east Texas, this gave rise to the fabulous T Bone Walker jump blues music, Bob Wills, and the Texas Playboys in Ft. Worth. Consequently, those musicians were all great jazz players and I use to hear them in the small clubs in Ft. Worth’s north side in the early 70s.
