Seicento Baroque Ensemble’s “Embellish!” workshops and performances Feb. 29-March 2 will trace the vital role of improvisation and ornamentation as it developed in the 17th century and persists in today’s jazz music.

Seicento presents a free workshop on improvisation to help improve your musical spontaneity. Guided by improvisation experts, you’ll learn how to let go and create new tunes, variations, riffs, and embellishments. The workshop ties in with Seicento’s “Embellish!” concerts on March 1-2, exploring the vital role that musical improvisation played in the 17th century (Baroque) era, and in American jazz. Bring your instrument – vocal or other. Led by the Mark Diamond Trio and Tina Chancey on gamba, fiddle, and kamenj. Evanne Browne, artistic director.
