Andy Skellenger is known as a virtuosic and versatile percussionist in many of Denver’s top world music and fusion ensembles. Kortet is the name of Skellenger’s new project centered around his playing of the West African harp-like instrument called the kora. Their debut album “Cymatics” was released earlier this year and has gotten regular airplay on KUVO and TAVN. Kortet = Kora + Tet , meaning it’s partly about the kora, but mostly about the “tet”, the spirit of collaboration. This performance will feature unusual instrumentation and styles from around the world with a heavy emphasis on the complex rhythms and sumptuous melodies of Indian Classical Music.
