GRAMMY® Award-winning Pianist and NEA Jazz Master Ramsey Lewis returns to the “Stage” with the monthly online performance series, “Saturday Salon” and will take place on the last Saturday of every month and will feature a 60-minute performance at 12 noon MDT and 1 pm CT and includes a 20 minute encore.
Lewis will provide audiences with an exclusive concert experience streaming ticketed solo performances once a month on the platform, Stageit. The “Saturday Salon” will serve as an intimate experience from Lewis’ home; he will also share inside knowledge through stories that reflect a long-standing career that delves behind the music.
Last touring in 2018, Lewis made the decision to give up the exhausting life on the road. “I love to perform but O’Hare and LaGuardia [airports] got the best of me,” Lewis explains. “I enjoyed a great run of live performances, but I decided that it was time to give it up. The rigors of travel started to take a toll.”
Lewis’ solo format will include new compositions penned specifically for these performances. “I’m going to be writing new material as well as performing and using material that has never been heard before. I started composing many years ago and I continue to compose now so there’s music that I have in my composition books that nobody has ever heard. Now there’s a reason to sit down and complete these fragments that I’ve always told myself that I would get to ‘later.’ I think now is the later.”
Showing no signs of slowing down, Ramsey just finished his latest record Urban Knights VII. Urban Knights is an all-star jazz, R & B and funk band that features Grammy nominated guitarist Henry Johnson, drummer Charles Heath, bassist Joshua Ramos and keyboardist Tim Gant. The record was released September in 2019 on the Ropeadope label.
