Stephen Brooks founded his trio/quartet in 2014 after years as band leader of Minor Note Orchestra, Denver’s well-known backing group of many Colorado-based burlesque and striptease productions. The quintet is proud to take the stage at Dazzle this summer with a more punk/ska-inspired lineup than what is seen in typical jazz combos, featuring Stephen on drums, Chris Kroger on piano, Wilson Luallen of Brown Palace fame and the other half of the Alex Trujillo Duo (bass), Nocturne regular Jeremy Wendelin on saxophone, and diamond-in-the-rough singer/trumpeter Matthew Clemont who serves as lead trumpet man and singer for the legendary Denver ska ensemble The Dendrites, having performed with a variety of national and international acts including the English Beat, The Skatalites, Fishbone, Save Ferris, Mustard Plug, and more. When he’s not playing the Gothic theater or the Bluebird, Matt hones his crooner chops with the Stephen Brooks groups and is delighted to share them at Dazzle on June 19, covering the music of Harry Connick, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mercer/Duke Ellington, and maybe some hits from the punk/ska repertoire. stephenbrookssounds.com stephenbrooksjazz.bandcamp.com.
