The Cat’s Glasses (formerly the Jon Gauer Octet) is a genre-bending ensemble led by trombonist and composer Jon Gauer.

Is it jazz? Is it funk? Is it prog rock? Is it fusion? Whatever you want to call it, it’ll be an exciting set of original music performed by some of Denver’s finest young musicians. Their first recording project, Silver in Red, can be heard on all streaming services as well as on YouTube, and several new recordings are due to be released in the next few months.

Gauer studied music performance at the University of North Texas (BM ’13/MM ’15), where he was a member of the Grammy-nominated One O’Clock Jazz Lab Band as well as a Graduate Teaching Fellow. He irresponsibly impulse-moved to Denver in 2018 and is continually #humbledandhonored to be a part of the local music scene. He can be heard performing around the area with ensembles including Vanimal Kingdom, Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra, and the pit for musicals with Performance Now Theatre Company.
