Curated by bassist Seth Lewis, this funky night of music features a collection of Denver’s finest jazz musicians performing the deeply grooving works of New Orleans’ iconic funk band, The Meters. This project is explores and focuses on material from the early releases of the Meters. These deep instrumental funk grooves are reinterpreted faithfully by the band, but provide ample room for the ensemble to stretch out musically.

Aleik Maddox – vocals, Dave Devine – Guitar, Tom Amend – organ, Seth Lewis – bass, BK Kahn – drums

The Meters were and will always be the quintessential New Orleans funk band.  Lead by keyboardist Art Neville, The Meters sound was down-home and earthy. Most of their recordings were instrumentals, putting the emphasis on organic grooves and complex rhythms. The syncopated, layered percussion intertwined with the gritty grooves of the guitar and organ, created a distinctive and unmistakable sound that has been coveted by musicians and fans for nearly 50 years.
