Puamun, director Josée Benjamin (Innu). Wapikoni Mobile’s arrival in the community of Ekuanitshit, inspired the director to document the journey of her son Jordan Maloney, now a boat captain like his father. Jordan describes his journey to become captain of a fishing boat, and accompanied by his deckhand, he takes us out for a typical day on his boat fishing for whelk. In French with English subtitles. The Politics of Toheroa Soup, director Tiana Trego Hall. A pūkōrero about whānau, kai, and me. In this heartfelt documentary, Tiana Trego Hall tells the personal story of her whānau (family) and their traditional kai (food), the protected giant surf clam, toheroa. (Maoriland Film Festival, 2022, 8 min.).

Salmon Reflection, director Anna Hoover. Salmon are the lifeblood of the communities they feed and support. Salmon Reflection provides a portal into an indigenous worldview of what salmon need. Be carried by Aassanaaq Kairairuak’s Yup’ik song Seal Boy, and find your place in solidarity as a steward for future healthy generations of salmon and people. (2021, 4 min.).

Lyed Corn with Ash, director Candace Maracle. Made in the Kanien’kéha language in partnership with Bawaadan Collective, this lovely short film presents a traditional Haudenosaunee recipe. No subtitles. (2 min).
