Henry Butler interview, Part 2
interview and music with Henry Butler
Piano virtuoso Henry Butler visits Denver this weekend, as part of the “New Orleans All-Star Rhythm Revue” at KUVO’s signature fundraising event, Live at the Vineyards, Sat. Aug. 9, 2014 at Balistreri Vineyards. In part two of Carlos Lando’s interview with Butler, they discuss the rich New Orleans musical community.
“When I first met Donald, he was one of the more naturally talented students, but he also developed in the (New Orleans music) culture,” said Butler. “He was very serious about it, and he wound up infusing those cultural devices and tradition into his classical and be-bop music. Donald is another one of those guys who can do anything.”
In part two of the interview, Butler also talks about the stature of guitarist Leo Nocentelli and his seminal funk group, The Meters.
