Thiroux’s debut album, Introducing Katie Thiroux, was released in February and has received rave reviews. Her release was a collaboration with guitarist Graham Dechter, saxophonist Roger Neumann, and drummer Matt Witek.

A May 2015 featured “player” by Downbeat, Katie began playing acoustic bass at 8 years old and was landing principal roles in the LA Opera and Opera Pacifica by the age of 10.

Captivated by an early recording of Lionel Hampton, Thiroux was driven to pursue her love for jazz and began studying privately with jazz vocalist Tierney Sutton at the age of 12.

In 2005, Thiroux began a mentorship with John Clayton that started at the Vail Jazz Party and recieved the Los Angeles Jazz Soceity award, “Shelly Manne New Talent” later that same year.

Thiroux was awarded the Phil Ramone Presidential Scholarship to Berklee College of Music in 2006.

Upon graduation, Thiroux was asked to teach at the Berklee International School in Ecuador, Quito. After returning to her native Los Angeles,  Thiroux completed a masters of jazz bass at California State University of Long Beach on full scholarship.

Thiroux has performed with Helen Sung, Terrell Stafford, Jeff Hamilton, and Anita O’Day and at jazz festivals in the United States, Mexico, Germany, Finland, Serbia, and Singapore.

Thiroux’s knowledge, perseverance and fervor for the music make her a rising force in today’s scene.
